The CLASS Protocol for Classroom Observations

With the support of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Measures of Effective Teaching (MET) project was created to develop and test multiple measures of teacher effectiveness. This report provides an overview of classroom observation protocols, including the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), which measures effective teacher-student interactions in Pre-K – 12th grade, taking into account important developmental and contextual shifts that occur with age.
